ROCK HILL — History can't pinpoint the origins of the game cornhole. As the annals of the bean bag and plywood game continue to be written, its growth in popularity will always include a note about Rock Hill. Based in the Charlotte bedroom community, the American Cornhole League took a game mostly played in backyards or at bars and turned it into a business with merchandising, corporate sponsorship, cash prizes and the airing of its contests on ESPN and CBS. The ACL organizes the sport's annual championship along with 30 pro-level tournaments across the country each year.
